Guestbook Federation

Decentralized communication that outlasts platforms

Based on ActivityPub protocol - The future of social networking

Communication Without Centralization

When centralized platforms fail (WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram), how do you communicate with your audience? Guestbook federation ensures your messages survive, even when single platforms don't.

The Solution: Federated guestbooks that sync with each other using ActivityPub. No single point of failure, no censorship, user-owned data.

What is Federation?

Federation is a decentralized network architecture where independent servers communicate with each other using open protocols. Instead of one central server controlling all data, many servers work together as a network.

Centralized (WhatsApp, Discord)

  • Single point of failure
  • Company controls your data
  • Can shut down anytime
  • Subject to censorship
  • Cannot export messages easily

Federated (Mastodon, Guestbooks)

  • No single point of failure
  • You control your data
  • Network continues if one server fails
  • Resistant to censorship
  • Easy to move between servers

ActivityPub Protocol

ActivityPub is an open, W3C-standardized protocol for decentralized social networking. It's the same technology that powers Mastodon, PeerTube, Lemmy, Pixelfed, and thousands of other federated platforms.

How It Works

1

User Posts Message

When someone posts on your guestbook, the system creates an ActivityPub message containing the content.

2

Message Federates

Your guestbook sends the message to all federated guestbooks and ActivityPub instances that follow it.

3

Other Instances Receive

Federated guestbooks and ActivityPub instances receive the message and display it to their users.

4

Network Effect

Messages spread across the network. Even if one guestbook goes offline, the message persists on others.

Guestbook Federation

Automatic Sync

When someone posts on one guestbook, it automatically syncs to all federated guestbooks. No manual intervention needed.

User Ownership

Users own their messages. They can post from any guestbook and their messages appear on all federated ones.

Privacy Preserved

Each guestbook maintains its own privacy rules. Federation doesn't compromise your guestbook's security.

No Single Point of Failure

If one guestbook goes offline, messages persist on others. The network is resilient to outages.

Federated Platforms (Examples)

ActivityPub is already powering thousands of decentralized platforms. Guestbook federation joins this existing ecosystem.

Mastodon

Decentralized Twitter

PeerTube

Decentralized YouTube

Lemmy

Decentralized Reddit

Federation Coming Soon

Guestbook federation based on ActivityPub is under active development. We're working hard to bring decentralized communication to guestbooks everywhere.

  • ActivityPub protocol implementation
  • Message synchronization across guestbooks
  • User identity management
  • Federation controls and moderation
